Castle – Nooks and secrets
The ceremonial heart of castle life, once a place of gatherings and decisive moments.
Its Gothic vaulted ceiling and Romanesque mullioned windows still hold the breath of Alpine Renaissance prestige.
Emerging from the gardens, the remains of this 12th-century Romanesque chapel now host “Und immer wieder geht die Sonne auf…” (And the sun rises again and again) by SCHWARZENFELD. Slender golden tubes trace the lost outline, projecting it skywards like rays of light. A shifting interplay that follows the sun as it rises each day in the East.
The oldest nucleus of the castle, dating back to the 10th century. Seen from the inner courtyard, its foundations reveal centuries of layered construction: bricks as pages of history, settled into stone.
Seventeen gardens encircle the castle, each with its own character. From the Apothekergarten, dedicated to medicinal herbs, to the rose garden, every corner tells a story of season, scent and memory. Native plants coexist with ancientspecies, respecting the original rocky terrain.
Hidden within the castle, 11th- and 12th-century frescoed walls survive as fragments of colour and memory, now an integral part of the castle’s aesthetic.
Silent witnesses to the former monastery.
A sequence of rooms once devoted to daily life unfolds at the heart of the castle. Among them, the Residenzstube,
whose inlaid ceiling bears the seals and signatures of centuries of abbesses, and the Jungfernstube, where young women studied, embroidered and prayed.
Today, these spaces host the castle’s culinary philosophy, preserving their intimate and welcoming spirit.
