Experiences
A collection of experiences for our guests at Castel Badia, curated by our preferred local DMC partners.
Water has been carving its way down through these mountains for thousands of years: from the peaks, through the rock, into streams, and finally over the edge. This experience follows that journey on foot, walking through the forest as the sound of the falls grows around you.
A professional alpine guide leads the way to the waterfalls of Campo Tures, one of the most dramatic spots in South Tyrol. The trail runs close enough to feel the spray and takes in several viewpoints along the way. It all ends in the air: a fly-line descent through the forest, with the valley spreading out below as you go.
An experience open to all ages, for anyone who wants to experience the mountains at their most exciting.

No trail takes you here. This is the Dolomites from above: unhurried, silent, carried by the wind.
A private transfer brings you to the launch point as the balloon is being prepared. Once you’re up, the scale of everything shifts: forests become texture, villages shrink to pinpoints, and the peaks arrange themselves into something that looks almost drawn. The flight lasts around an hour, and where you land is part of the experience –– you won’t know until you’re there.

In South Tyrol, bread is still made by hand. It always has been, passed down through families, baked the same way, in the same kind of oven, for generations.
At a local farm, you can learn to do it properly. An expert walks you through the dough, the ingredients, the rhythm of the whole thing. When the bread goes into the wood-fired oven, the pace slows down: there is time to wander the farm, hear a few stories about life up here, and sit in the sun for a while. As the tour comes to an end, it is time to share a Tyrolean break made with farm produce and homemade specialities. It’s the part that tastes best.

The ride sets off from the hotel along a route shaped around the pace and preferences of each group, winding through the pastures and forests of Valle Aurina.
The first stop is Goassroscht, a mountain farm where everything on the table is either made in-house or sourced from a carefully chosen network of local producers. The stars of the visit are the goats: getting up close with them is a chance to learn about their daily routine and the craft of cheesemaking. The visit ends with a farm merenda based on local cured meats, homemade goat’s cheese and other artisan specialities.
Then it’s back in the saddle for a traditional mountain lunch at a local restaurant, before returning to the hotel.

A private alpine guide leads the way through Val Badia, along a route built around the history, geology and natural landscape of the valley.
The destination is a small private chalet at San Cassiano, set above a stream and surrounded by a lush garden. Albert has looked after every detail – from the kitchen to the dining room – transforming what was once a carpentry workshop into a welcoming retreat that, for a few hours, becomes a private world of its own. A mountain lunch is prepared especially for the occasion: three courses built on simple ingredients, some of them rooted in local tradition, all of them quietly surprising in their depth of flavour. Each dish has a story, told by the chef as the meal unfolds.

The Rienza rises high in the mountains, gathering glacial meltwater as it carves its way down through forests and rock faces. The best way to follow it is to get in.
An experienced guide leads the way along a safe route that moves between slower stretches, where the river opens up and the mountains are there to take in, and faster sections where the current picks up and the adrenaline comes with it.

The forest around the castle is full of aromatic herbs, wildflowers and plants that have always been there, but that few people know how to find, and fewer still know how to use.
A foraging expert leads the walk through the trees, teaching you to read the landscape: which plants to look for, which to pick, and how. A slow, sensory walk, with a basket that fills as you go.
Waiting deeper in the forest is Stefano Urru, one of Italy’s thirty best bartenders, ready to turn whatever you have gathered into a drink made just for you. A mixology session in the open air, where the recipe shifts with the season and no two visits are ever quite the same.
The experience ends back at the castle with a light lunch prepared for the occasion.

A collection of winter experiences for our guests at Castel Badia, curated by our preferred local DMC partners.
The Dolomiti Superski area is the largest ski circuit in the world, connecting 1,200 kilometres of well-groomed pistes, standing as. This itinerary moves through its finest chapters, with a professional ski instructor setting the pace and a helicopter waiting to bring you back in the manner the day deserves.
Starting from the Kronplatz lifts, you’ll ski through Passo Furcia into San Vigilio, then down the Piculin run, where a vehicle transfers you to the slopes of Alta Badia. From the plateau, the panorama opens onto a 360° view of the Dolomites. Your instructor makes sure the experience is completely tailored to you: the itinerary, the stops, and the timing of the return flight are all shaped around your level and preference. Options include the Granrisa, home to the Men’s Giant Slalom World Cup; the glacier runs towards Marmolada; or the sweeping La Longia in Val Gardena. Those who simply want to keep moving can challenge themselves to see how far they can go, chasing the light as the afternoon turns.
The day ends with a helicopter flight back to Riscone (Kronplatz): the peaks at eye level, the valley below.

Carved into the mountain during the First World War, a former military bunker now serves an altogether different purpose: the slow ageing of cheeses.
Cheese Master Hubert has transformed this subterranean gallery into a living cellar where local, Italian, and international varieties are collected and matured in the dark, shaped by altitude and stone. A private transfer from the hotel brings you to his door for a guided tasting led by Hubert himself, paired with wines from Pranzegg, one of South Tyrol’s most respected biodynamic producers, growing natural wines on high-altitude vineyards.
An encounter with two ancient crafts, in a place that still holds the memory of these mountains.

Italy’s first certified organic deer reserve is home to several free-roaming fallow deer and to Lukas, the farmer and keeper who has spent years quietly observing them.
He is your guide for a hike through the forest, where the mountain quietly reveals itself at a different pace. Together you’ll position salt blocks along the trails (essential minerals that sustain the deer through winter) and set a hidden camera in the undergrowth. As the deer approach, drawn by the salt, the camera captures footage and images that stand as reminders of this quiet morning, delivered in the weeks following the visit.
The day ends with a private brunch: a table set for two in the open air, surrounded by deer that may, if the moment allows, eat gently from your hand.
** The brunch setup in the park is only available for a maximum of 2 guests, as more people would disturb the animals. Larger groups of 3 to 6 guests gather in the historic cellars of the farmhouse.
